While still just a small part of the overall alcoholic market, the no-alcohol drinks (NA Bevs) segment is growing at a 7% annual rate and by 2027 will reach a significant 4%. And it reflects an important global cultural shift: “sober curious” are not abstaining altogether but rather alternating between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Research from NielsenIQ shows that 82% of people who buy non-alcoholic drinks in the US – i.e. not just the soda’s type soft drink – also purchase drinks that contain alcohol. The new trend is not fed by the health or religious concerns of the drinkers, or at least, not only by those: there are solid “gastronomic” reasons behind. Significant portions of consumers, in recent research, cite taste and quality as the main reasons for their shift. And either the no alcohol drinks are faux versions of alcoholic spirits and wine or crafted to hold their own complexity, maturity, and uniqueness, their quality and variety has improved beyond any expectation.
The 0-100 World Summit in Dubai, the first of its kind, is scheduled for next May, precisely in the wake of this international trend. It will showcase the largest range of quality no-alcohol drinks, it will host dedicated tastings and a superb range of pairings with the cuisine of international Michelin starred chefs.
A sneak preview of the 0-100 Summit will be on the 20 and 21 of February, at Lunarossa Restaurant (www.lunarossadubai.com within the Out of the Box event, the Gulfood – The World’s Biggest Annual F&B Event after fair, where the dishes of four Michelin starred chefs from Italy will be matched to some sophisticated NA BEVS.
